This free concert, which partakes in the official Journées de la culture programming, will showcase Canadian music, with a particular focus on the contribution of women in contemporary composition. This concert is fully in line with the missions of St. James and the Journées de la culture, which aim to democratize culture and showcase our Quebec and Canadian artistic heritage. The concert will feature flautist Charmaine Bacon and organist Alexandra Fol, both recognized for their artistic excellence and commitment to Canadian music. The program will feature several works by Canadian composers, culminating with the world premiere of Rachel Laurin's Sonata for Flute and Organ, the last work completed by this renowned composer before her death. This is a moment of great artistic and symbolic significance, highlighting Rachel Laurin's lasting legacy in the Canadian musical landscape. Following the concert, the audience will be invited to participate in a guided tour of the organ, a cultural outreach activity that allows them to discover this fascinating instrument in an accessible and interactive setting. St. James hopes to promote and combine artistic excellence, accessibility, diversity, and cultural outreach. Our events continue to showcase Canadian music in a vibrant, inclusive, and inspiring environment.
