Deep in the Peruvian Amazon, Meshia, an Indigenous teenager, comes across Ivan, a boy who has been missing for two years. To get him the life-saving eye surgery he needs, she travels upriver to Quillabamba, a city nestled in the Andean mountains. Along the way, Ivan is haunted by spectres of a mysterious past, while Meshia becomes entranced by the illusions of urban life. Punku (meaning “door” in Quechua) unfolds as a sinuous, sensory journey where realism slips into the supernatural. Moving between black-and-white and color, film and digital, it mirrors the uncertain paths of memory and dreams. Drawing on Peruvian mythology and ancestral cultures, J.D. Fernandez Molero crafts a poetic fable that explores the wounds of a nation with lyrical magic.

The October 10th and 11th screenings will be followed by a Q&A featuring members from the cast & crew.
