The world is on fire. How do we extinguish the flames that threaten us while rekindling those we depend on? Amid a hot mess of smoking toasters and shrieking fire alarms, Pompières et pyromanes transforms Martine Delvaux's eponymous essay into a stunning artistic intervention. The set is dominated by a gigantic slide, taken from an installation by the BGL arts collective, evoking both the downfall of the world and the possibility of its revival. On stage, eight citizen-artists and a Quebec Sign Language interpreter express raw truths and devise a multi-generational, feminist response to the climate crisis. There's still a chance for the rebirth of hope—in a loving letter from a mother to her daughter, in music that shifts between punk rock and gentler sounds. With a dramatic approach based on collected objects and collages, Bureau de l'APA embraces the unpredictable and the incomplete, encouraging us to think about the world differently. Pompières et pyromanes shatters conventions and fuels the fight for the future.
