An evocation of the great moments of the Palace of Versailles and its court, through the lens of historical events involving its most famous – or most grotesque/absurd (ubuesques) – figures from its history. Sacha Guitry, an immense figure in French cinema and theater, directed in 1953 what would become one of the greatest successes in French cinema, with a tone similar to his stage humor. Part historical account, part fable and tale, it is one of the first French-language historical epics in color.
