21 Balançoires (21 Swings) by Daily tous les jours

A collective musical production
From April 8 to May 28, 2019
This interactive musical installation, part game and part street furniture, delivers countless hours of all-ages fun. Created for the Quartier des Spectacles by the Montreal-based design team of Mouna Andraos and Melissa Mongiat, of Daily tous les jours, each swing makes the sound of a musical instrument: piano, guitar, harp or vibraphone. The height reached by the swing determines the note it plays, and when multiple swings are occupied a melody starts to emerge.

Biography of the conceptors
Daily tous les jours creates large scale interactive installations driven by collective experiences. The Montreal-based art and design studio uses technology, performance, placemaking and storytelling to explore collaboration, the future of cities and the power of humans.
Daily is best known for its work in public spaces, where passing crowds are invited to play a critical role in the transformation of their environment. Some of Daily’s best known projects include 21 Balançoires, a series of swings creating music through public cooperation; and Musical Shadows, that reacts to the shadows of passerby with the sounds of singing voices. Daily also presented Hello Trees in Houston TX, a walking serenade with light animated arches and most recently, they created the meditative experience of I Heard There Was a Secret Chord, presented at the Musée d’Art Contemporain de Montreal as part of the Leonard Cohen exhibition called A Crack in Everything.
Daily’s work has won numerous international recognitions including Best in Show at the IxDA Interaction Awards, the Grand Prize at the UNESCO Shenzhen Design Awards, a Knight Cities Challenge for Civic Innovation, a Fast Company Innovation by Design Award, and an Americans for the Arts Public Art Network Award.
Daily tous les jours was co-founded by Melissa Mongiat and Mouna Andraos in 2010.
