Jean-Claude Chabot

Jean-Claude Chabot has led a remarkable career in Quebec’s cultural industry. In 1972, while studying law, he was recruited by producer Pierre David of Films mutuels, and left law for film. After spearheading the construction of numerous movie theatres, he worked his way up to Senior Vice-President of the prestigious theatre operator Cineplex Odeon. He then launched his own communications firm specializing in film, Pop Corn.

In 2010, Mr. Chabot decided to make one of his biggest dreams a reality: revitalizing the Quartier Latin in the Quartier des Spectacles. When he learned that Théâtre St-Denis was to be demolished to make way for condos, he led the vigorous opposition to the project. The market studies conducted by his team demonstrated the economic significance of Théâtre St-Denis for the Quartier Latin, while also showing that its business model needed to be revised.

The result was the Espace St-Denis project. The idea was conceived in the 2010s and finally came to fruition in 2022 with the opening of the Studio-Cabaret. The innovative new performance venue, offering a unique experience thanks to its 180-degree LED screen, quickly became a fixture on Montreal’s cultural scene.

In recent years, Mr. Chabot has worked with a number of producers to present shows such as Mon île, mon cœur with Les 7 Doigts de la main and Montréal Complètement Cirque, La magie des Impressionnistes...

Today, Mr. Chabot continues to work with key players to turn ideas into completed projects, mobilizing the most talented people to continue revitalizing the neighbourhood that he loves so dearly.
