The Quartier des spectacles Partnership productions

The Partnership is tasked with programming cultural activities in the Quartier that enhance the existing cultural offering.

This initiative has resulted in the establishment of annual events during low-traffic seasons, notably Luminothérapie during the winter and 21 Swings in the spring.

The Partnership is also responsible for the development of the Luminous Pathway and its ambitious video projection path, which is the world’s largest network of building façades dedicated entirely to the presentation of artistic content.

Moreover, in collaboration with other area stakeholders, the Partnership is behind several creative urban installations that draw on the fields of lighting design, immersive environments and interactive digital spaces. The Quartier is in effect a huge outdoor museum for cutting-edge public art.

Luminous Pathway

The embodiment of the Quartier’s visual identity on its territory, the Luminous Pathway highlights the richness of the neighbourhood. Today, more than 30 public spaces and cultural venues are illuminated, with more being added to the list every year. The Luminous Pathway has three elements: the shared lighting signature, architectural lighting and video projections.

The Luminous Pathway aims to make the Quartier des Spectacles an urban branding touchstone while respecting dark sky principles (reduction of light pollution through the use of energy-saving technologies). LED lighting, used in the majority of projects, draws five times less energy than conventional lighting and lasts 25 times longer.

Acknowledged as innovative, environmentally friendly and cost-efficient, the Luminous Pathway has been awarded several national and international prizes. It has also been featured on the front cover of 10 specialized magazines worldwide.

The Quartier des Spectacles Partnership has produced the Luminous Pathway since 2006, under the artistic direction of Ruedi Baur and Jean Beaudoin of Intégral. The project has been made possible through financial contributions from the City of Montreal, the Secrétariat de la région métropolitaine and participating public spaces and cultural venues.

Awards and honours

The Quartier des Spectacles has been honoured with numerous awards, particularly for its urban design, Luminous Pathway and artistic installations.

Please note that this list omits awards handed out to the Quartier’s 80 cultural venues and the 40 events held by our partners.
