ADDRESSE SYMPHONIQUE | WORK BEGINS

The builders of Place des Arts were dreaming about it 45 years ago. Now it's under construction!

On May 28, the Quebec government announced that in 2011, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal will have a concert hall that befits the reputation of the orchestra and its conductor, maestro Kent Nagano.

The new hall, which will be built on the eastern esplanade of Place des Arts, will add 2100 seats to the capacity of the Quartier des spectacles. Groupe immobilier Ovation is heading up the project, led by SNC-Lavalin in collaboration with an architectural consortium made up of Diamond and Schmitt Architects and AEdifica, with the participation of Solotech and Gala Systems. The acoustical design of the Addresse symphonique is the work of the late Russel Johnson, who was one of the best-known specialists in his field. 70% of the surfaces of the $259 million hall will be covered in wood.
