A new vocation for the Blumenthal Building
The Blumenthal building, abandoned since 2003, will house the Maison du festival de Jazz, thanks to a $8.9 million subsidy from the Government of Quebec.
After repeatedly expressing our desire to make this building a symbol of neighbourhood renewal since 2003, the Quartier des spectacles Parternship welcomes the announcement of this major project.
The building, located on the Balmoral block, will border the new public space under construction since January. The projected building will include a 300-seat performance hall, an exhibition hall, a bar-restaurant and archival space.
The Festival international de Jazz de Montréalwill inject $4 million into the project, with $3 million coming from private partners. The building is projected to open in 2009, at the same time as the “Place du Quartier des spectacles” and in time for the 30th anniversary of the festival.
