July 9, 2008

Main text of post

On July 9th, the architectural models for the future Place des festivals were unveiled at the Musée d’art contemporain.

In response to the vision developed by the Quartier des spectacles Partnership, which called for infrastructure to make permanent the cultural activities that take place in the neighbourhood, this new public plaza will be able to welcome Montreal’s numerous festivals. The plans call for, among other features, 250 variable jets of water, lit in red and white, and transparent structures dedicated to the priority use of restaurants.

The announcement was made in the presence of Gérald Tremblay, Mayor of Montreal; Christine St-Pierre, Minister of Culture, Communications and the Status of Women; Raymond Bachand, Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade, Minister of Tourism, and Minister responsible for the Montreal region; and Steven Blaney, Member of Parliament for Lévis-Bellechasse.
