THE REAGAN SHOW
Information on the activity
Dates to come
Ronald Reagan, who’d been a busy actor with 53 Hollywood movies to his credit, was the first movie star to land the real-life role of president of the United States, which he played for two terms with cameras rolling at virtually all times. That imposing image bank is the raw material for The Reagan Show, a fascinating collection of archival material exposing the emergence of a new form of politics-as-spectacle. With perfect fluidity, the editing switches between the public image and its making, taking us behind the scenes of a vast PR machine, while Reagan negotiates a disarmament treaty with his Soviet counterpart, Mikhail Gorbachev – with timeouts for handshakes with Michael Jackson and Mr. T, of course.
