RAILWAY SLEEPERS

RAILWAY SLEEPERS

Information on the activity

Dates to come

The film opens with words from another time. In his speech inaugurating Thailand’s first railroad, King Rama V predicted a modern and prosperous future for his country. It was 1893. Filmed entirely inside numerous trains subtly edited into a single one, Railway Sleepers maps Thai society through the seemingly neutral movements of a camera ready to capture the passengers’ smallest gestures and the changing landscape outside. Like an ethereal documentary rejoinder to Bong Joon-ho’s sci-fi thriller Snowpiercer, this interior journey changes before our eyes into a surreal political meditation. The influence of producer and mentor Apichatpong Weerasethakul is palpable.
