Come! Come! The Grand Bernardo, illustrious unemployed tamer of wild beasts, invites the young to ride in his human-propelled carousel!

"Le petit cirque du Grand Bernardo" is inspired by the world of fairgrounds and the traditional circuses of yesteryear. You’re invited into the universe of Bernardo, unemployed tamer of wild beasts, who for the moment is taming the menagerie of a carousel. Grand Bernardo’s carousel, however, has a peculiarity necessitated by unemployment - it is operated with human propulsion! In fact, it is bike-operated. Of course, our courageous tamer could easily pedal himself to operate the carousel but, perhaps because of his crookedness, he cannot help but force - sorry, convince - a dad or a mom to volunteer to pedal the carousel using his menacing whip.

Since its founding in 2004, La Tête de pioche has created seven shows and staged more than 450 performances with an attendance of 45,000. The company has visited some fifteen cities in Québec and Europe and more than 75 artists and craftsmen have worked on the company’s various creations.

La Tête de pioche constantly seeks to reinvigorate the relationship between the performance and the audience, favoring a close proximity to the audience and integrating elements of the audience’s imagination into the performance. The company creates works with inventive forms, such as object theatre, urban walkabouts, crowd theatre or small, intimate performances.
