El Hispalis was founded in 2012, by Montreal born virtuoso guitarist Stefano Pando. Stefano studied renaissance lute at Eastman School of music in Rochester, NY with renowned lute player Paul O'dette, he also studied jazz and classical guitar at the Montreal Conservatory of Music. He travelled to spain and mastered flamenco guitar in Cadiz, Spain with Juan Ramon Ortega.

Musically, El Hispalis is a unique blend of latin grooves, tinged with flamenco, jazz guitars and infused with urban vibes. The songs reflect the vibrant and diverse musical and cultural realities of the Quebec music scene. The material is sung in English, French and Spanish, this makes the project highly versatile and accessible.

El Hispalis's current line up is Stefano Pando on guitars, Yannick Strawinski on keyboards and vocals, Sébastien Blackburn on bass, Michel Medrano Brindis on drums, Clarence Corbeil on percussions and Sophie Pinard on back vocals.

They have been performing on the Canadian flamenco/world music scenes since 2012. They have performed at various music festivals and industry events such as Rythme du Monde 2013, Festival International des Nuits d’Afrique 2012, Festival des Guitares du Monde en Abitibi-Témiscamingue 2015, 2016, CMW 2016, Vision Diversité 2013, just to name a few.
