GORKATA MUSICA DEL MUNDO

''The duo Gorkata plays original compositions, using accordion, darbuka and voices. They are inspired by Gypsy and Arabic music, but they are also influenced by Eastern Europe and Middle East folklore. From Québec, Kata plays accordion while Gorka, from Mexico, plays percussions. Both represent the core of the project Gorkata, born in Chiapas in 2006.

After studying classical piano at the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal, Kata devoted herself to travels. It is in Mexico that she adopted the accordion and did her first stage expérience. She was the part of the Fraktal-Avatara between 2006 and 2010. Over the past two years, she has played with Baraka orchestra, a classical Arab music ensemble.

Gorka her companion, had the chance to learn with master drummers such as Bemba Bangoura and Koungbana Konde, both from Guinea, Francisco Bringas, from Mexico and Shashanka Bakshi from India. This highly skilled and versatile percussionist plays darbuka, djembe, cajon, rik and tablas. Has played with Elyssium project, Fraktal/Avatara, Baraka orchestra.

Both fans of interdisciplinary fusion, they were asked to set plays, live painting performances, and circus to music. Over the last four years, the duo Gorkata distinguished itself in the field of Gypsy and tribal dance in Mexico. They are now based in Montréal. With their show, we feel the emotion, rythm and imagination wich make colorful and lively musical collage.''
